As people, we love to plan for the far off days. That thing in the distance. There was actually a study done that says people enjoy the process of planning a vacation more than they actually enjoy going on the vacation. And why is that? Because it’s all hypothetical. Anything is possible. And it doesn’t yet require any actual work.
But if you’re wanting to hustle up your butt and you’re hoping to make big changes next year… why wait until next year?
START. NOW.
Below are 3 things to think about BEFORE the new year. Ways to evaluate and reset yourself before January 1st. Because if you start these little projects now, you’ll be much more likely to follow through with them even if you’re in that holiday haze.
Keep in mind that everything below can apply to both personal -and- professional life, which is how I like it here at Hustle Up Girl. So make sure when you’re thinking things over? That you’re thinking about them in relation to the various aspects of your life.
1 – create a daily routine
It might feel like an impossible task. With so many unknowns and holiday plans coming up, how do you create a routine that sticks? I have two opinions on this.
First, creating a routine doesn’t mean you do the exact same thing every single day. It means you’re making sure a handful of things that matter to you get to be a priority. It might be carving out 30 minutes before bed to make sure you take off your makeup and put on whitening strips and write in your gratitude journal. Or maybe it’s about finding that hour you need so you can do yoga when you wake up. Regardless, think of creating a routine as an opportunity to pick out a handful of things that matter each day and promise yourself that they will get done.
Second, it’s okay if your routine changes. I actually encourage that! Use the time between now and the end of the year to test out a few different types of routines. Weekend routines. Travel routines. Workday routines. Cleaning routines. Bedtime routines. Routines with your kids. The more pressure you put on yourself to be perfect, the less likely you’ll be to actually keep and maintain something that has to fit into your imperfect life. Be flexible. ‘Routine’ doesn’t mean ‘rigid.’
2 – evaluate your priorities
So how do you decide what is a priority for a routine? How do you make sure you’re giving time to the things that matter? Take some time to evaluate your priorities. Maybe you’re spending too much time on your phone in the evening and you want to make it more important to go on a walk or spend time with your partner. Or maybe you want to find a way to create that dream Etsy business more of a reality but you spend your weekends bingeing on Netflix instead of working on your business plan.
The truth is that you will make time for what matters. It’s just up to you to make sure what matters gets the time.
3 – plot out 3 big goals for next year
This one is a big one! What are some things you want to accomplish next year? Maybe you want to lose 20 pounds, or you want to increase your small business’ sales numbers, or you want to write a book. Whatever it is? It isn’t going to happen if you don’t try to sort out a path for yourself to get there.
So how do you achieve something that has so far seemed like an insurmountable goal?
Step-by-step. Day-by-day.
(Anyone else just here the theme song for that TV show from the 90s? hahaha).
Big goals are not simple to achieve. And there is a reason. It’s because accomplishing something big requires a significant amount of sacrifice. As much as I’d like to tell you that it’s easy? It just isn’t. But there is an easier way to get there.
All you have to do is plan out the steps. Work backwards. Decide where you want to be and then map out a course to get there. It might come as a shock once you lay out all of the work, and you might even realize that accomplishing that big goal should be pushed out a year or two because you have some smaller baby steps to take before you can get there.
Hopefully you will take these 3 suggestions and get moving! There are only a little more than 2 months left in the year, and I know you can accomplish a lot if you just set your mind to it.
So go… right now… this minute. Grab a notebook and a pen, or open up a Word doc, and start moving on this. Start planning what’s next, what you need to do to take that next step. You won’t be sorry you took the time to focus on what matters.
Happy hustling!
